Cat Island is the highest point in the Bahamas at 206 feet above sea level. It have been named after Arthur Catt, the famous British sea captain, or also from the wild cats that once lived on the island. It is also rumoured to be the original landing point of Columbus in the New World.
This boot-shaped untamed island is one of the most beautiful and fertile in the Bahamas. From its high cliffs there is an amazing view of the forested foothills and 60 miles of deserted pink and white sand beaches.
Descendant of many early settlers remain in the same towns as their ancestors, life for example, Sidney Poitier, the famous actor who spent his boyhood days at Arthur´s Town , one of the many settlements on the island and later returned to settle here.
